The Importance of Eco-Friendly Products
As people across Australia and all over the world become more aware about the importance of protecting the environment and using eco-friendly products, the demand for these green products has become much higher. In the last few years in particular with global warming and the degradation of the Great Barrier Reef becoming increasingly prevalent environmental issues, more and more Australians are searching for eco-friendly products that don’t harm the environment (whether in their production, use, or even disposal), and have green features like being biodegradable, recyclable and compostable. Green products help conserve energy, minimise carbon footprints or the emission of greenhouse gases, and reduce overall toxicity and pollution in the environment. If more people choose to reuse and purchase eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products, there will be greater drive for developments in the area of green energies, recycling and other green technologies, as well as a larger market for eco-friendly products and services in general. Is it time your business went green?

Benefits of Buying Eco-Friendly Products
Here are some reasons why switching to eco-friendly products is beneficial:
Eco-friendly products may seem to be more expensive initially, but long term they are actually more cost efficient. 'Green' products typically last much longer as they are made from recycled materials which are more durable - withstanding most drops, kicks, and dishwashers - and better quality. Eco-friendly products may have a larger sticker price, but since they last longer, it is an investment that will pay off.
Plastics are the go-to material used in most packaging, and plastics are extremely damaging to the environment. Disposable coffee cups, for example, are often lined with plastic which will take over 30 years to fragment and almost 100 years to break down completely. In contrast, eco-friendly manufacturers generally make products using packaging from recycled materials that can easily decompose. And some of these manufacturers even embed seeds in the wrappers so that they will end up growing a plant if they are taken to the landfill. Bonus!
Not only are these products healthier for the environment, but they can also be healthier for you! Many brand name products we're used to are made from or contain plastics, which are known to have BPA, lead, and other harmful chemicals that can put us at risk of developing many different health issues. For adults, the risks include diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and reproductive system abnormalities. For children, it can cause premature puberty, diabetes, stunted growth, and autoimmune disorders. Eco-friendly, all natural products ensure safety from all dangerous chemicals, and allow families to avoid risky additives that we may be unaware of. Using eco-friendly products improves quality of life in terms of mortality, age, diseases, and illnesses.

Eco-friendly promotional products case study: scUber
One of Avid Edge's happy clients, Tourism and Events Queensland recently launched scUber, a ground-breaking new global tourism campaign promoting the Great Barrier Reef, and Avid Edge was thrilled to be a part of the amazing initiative supplying custom branded jackets, polos, caps, and lanyards, as well as eco-friendly promotional products including reusable water bottles and boxed water cartons.
In a unique partnership with rideshare giant, Uber, a ride in the scUber submarine allowed travellers to go beyond the limits of conventional diving to explore the Great Barrier Reef at depths of up to 30 metres, with 180-degree views, and all without getting wet. The ScUber is battery powered, meaning it does not damage the coral it explores, and also features two GoPros which provide a window into the underwater ecosystem, putting together 'Reef tracks'. The footage supports reef research and monitoring and essentially creates a map of the reef which spans more than 2,300 kilometres.
With this tourism venture Tourism and Events Queensland, Uber and Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef hoped to raise awareness and stimulate tourism to the world’s largest ecosystem, so that more Australians become passionate about protecting and conserving the Reef for generations to come.
Uber donated $100,000 to Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef to help support their Reef conservation programs and will donate the equivalent value of every scUber ride taken to this important organisation.
